Coffee remains one of Canada’s most deeply rooted daily rituals, but where, when and how Canadians drink it is evolving.

Between September 16th to 27th, Field Agent Canada surveyed 1,410 Canadians to better understand today’s coffee occasion, from the kitchen counter to the drive-thru. Our new report, The Canadian Coffee Cup: How Canadians Are Drinking Coffee, At Home and Away in 2026, explores the habits shaping both the retail and foodservice coffee markets.

The study confirms coffee’s remarkable reach: 91% of Canadians surveyed consume coffee, and 40% of coffee drinkers say they are drinking it more often than they did a year ago.

At home, coffee remains a major part of the daily routine. 93% of coffee drinkers prepare coffee at home, averaging 2.0 servings per day. The report explores the formats Canadians drink, equipment they own, brands they choose and retailers where they buy their coffee.

Away from home, the coffee occasion looks different. Iced and espresso-based beverages become more important, and convenience is critical. 64% have ordered coffee through a drive-thru, while an impressive 84% report consuming away-from-home coffee in their car or on the go.

The report also examines generational and regional differences, leading brands and retailers, single-dose systems, ordering methods, food attachment, and what Canadians think about a potential Dunkin’ return to Canada.
