On April 9, 2026 Empire Company (parent of Sobeys) announced it has reached an agreement to acquire Mayrand Food Group, a long-standing Québec-based retailer, with the deal expected to close in fiscal 2027. The deal gives Empire a strategic entry into Québec’s growing discount/warehouse food segment, while maintaining the Mayrand brand.
The location at 3615 Autoroute Jean-Noel Lavoie in Laval is 38,000 square feet and features a large selection of deli meat and cheese, seasonal produce, fish, and seafood, as well as brand name cookware.
